SNORKELING

There are a lot of great snorkeling spots in Maui. You can rent equipment by the week or by the day at most dive shops everywhere. The beaches around the Ekahi Village are a great place to start.

Snorkeling at Keakakpu Beach - If you want good snorkeling near the shore, head south to Keawakapu (end of Kihei Rd -Tide pool great for kids) or Ulua (between the Renaissance and Outrigger) beaches. This is a great spot if you are a beginner snorkeler.

Snorkeling at Ahihi Beach - A great spot is Ahihi. It is past Makena just as the lava fields begins. The best time to go is early in the morning when the water is calmer.

Snorkeling at La Perouse Bay - This is a great area to swim with the sea turtles. There are no signs, but it's just past Ahihi near the stables and well into the lava field at the end of the road. There will be some hiking, but well worth the work.

DOWNHILL BIKING / HIKING

Bike Haleakala (Volcano Downhill Ride) - The guided tour can be expensive but they offer a great breakfast half way down. Guided tour: Maui Downhill (808) 871-2155 or (800) 535-BIKE. Non-guided tour: Try the Haleakala Downhill group.

Haleakala Sunrise and/or Hike - If you are able to get up really early, you might want to catch the beautiful sunrise at Haleakala Crater as it rises up out of the ocean. It is extremely cold until the sun comes up (take warm clothing) and is a two hour drive away (you'll have to leave by 4AM). The air is thin at 10,000 feet. REMEMBER, DO NOT GO WITHIN 24 HOURS OF SCUBA DIVING!

ROAD TO HANA

Road Trip to Hana - This is an all day activity. You can drive yourself or take a tour. It's a windy road where you'll see plenty of waterfalls, black sand beaches, and thick foliage along the way. At the end, you'll hit Hana, but go beyond to the Seven Pools and do some hiking.
